Reflections of Cat Power - King Rides By (Manny Pacquiao Video)

Manny Pacquiao Nike Sportswear N98 Track Jacket, Toronto store window display

I was walking along Queen Street West in T.O. when I spotted the world's BEST pound for pound fighter inside a shop window. Manny Pacquiao, looking pretty ugly as ever, clad in a red hoodie underneath his $100 Nike Sportswear N98 Track Jacket. The fact that I was wearing my fave old worn-out Gap red hoodie, looking ugly poor as ever, at the time was purely coincidental. LOL. (This is a quickie post shorter than "King Rides By" song by Cat Power.)

A persistently persistent pal o' mine (pantomime?) dropped an MP3 into my full Dropbox. Last December, Chan Marshall aka Cat Power released a new version of "King Rides By" (originally from her 1996 LP What Would the Community Think) and a 7-minute long video featuring Filipino boxer-politician-singer-LOL-actor Manny Pacquiao hitting a speed bag in slow-mo. Apparently, it's weirdly hypnotic to everyone but... me. Actually, my eyes focused on the sign behind the fat trainer. As if it was an eye chart test on a wall. I think it says, "DO NOT ADJUST SPEED BAG PLATFORMS ASK A TRAINER!" Watch MP work out:

My pal suggested that I put the song on my iPod 'workout playlist' (music that motivates me to exercise harder, better, faster, stronger). After losing 23 pounds last year, I feel like I've hit a weight loss wall... the inevitable plateau where an exerciser has stopped seeing results. :(

Proceeds from the song (fortunately, Manny doesn't sing in it) go to charities: Festival of Children Foundation and Ali Forney Center. You can download the MP3 at Cat Power's website for a donation amount of your choosing. I felt bad so I donated 99 cents. ONCE. So, I don't know why my HUGE face (old photo, circa 2009?) appears TWICE on the Donor Wall:

I think it makes for a really cool photo though with the repetition of hoodies, all the reds, the text (and the backwards text behind you). It almost looks like some weird fashion collage. Like it.

I'm a fan of Manny Pacquiao... as a boxer. Other than that, either I could laugh or cringe at whatever he does, except for giving out money to the unfortunate.

And oh, I love Cat Power! I first heard of her from Dave Grohl of the Foo Fighters, when he mentioned her in that "In Your Honor" documentary (he wanted to collaborate with her for the said album). I checked out her discography, and then boom... I fell in love with her ever since. And "You Are Free" and "The Covers Records" are my favorite albums from her. :)

So your face appears twice and one is zoomed in. LOL. Maybe you donated 99 cents twice by mistake? Also, why not make is $1 instead? LOL. :D

I think it's kinda funny that even if Manny Pacquiao is so popular, I have not seen any of his fights. Well, there was one, but as I was just sitting down on the sofa, the fight ended. Besides, it's a lot better to go out to the mall or wherever during his fights as the streets are deserted. NO TRAFFIC! Till the late afternoon!

@Deanna: Hi Deanna! Thanks for dropping by! Welcome back to my blog.

And no, that's not actually a photo of Manny Pacquiao "in person". It was just a giant poster of him inside a shop window. Haha, I was actually just taking a pic of my reflection on the glass (a lame inside joke for a friend).

That's cool that you saw a celebrity while you were walking around the town. Did you take that picture of him? I would be too scared to take a picture of him like that. I usually try to sneakily take a picture of someone when they don't know I'm taking their picture.

A frigid day in fruityoaty land. I thought I'd stay in bed, all day. Might as well reply to y'all:

@Scart: Neah, I don't "hate" Manny Pacquiao. I just think he shouldn't SING or ACT. Awful.

@Em: Maybe by design. Maybe not. Time is relative. Maybe you're hallucinating again. ;)

@Ami: No one has proven the connection. It's possible your aunt heard Pacquiao sing...

@Jude: Edits? ;) Maybe you're going cray cray. No, I haven't tired of hitting penis piñatas.

@Hodges: Sshhh. No pirating here. I decided to put your worthless face on my KARMA WALL. :P

@Zerovoltage: Mmm, Filipino pride chicken. Isn't that called Jollibee Chickenjoy? ;)

Hallow! Hehe. I'm not sure if you hate Pacman on this post or my very poor comprehension skill is not working. LOL. But I think that's cool, Manny having a huge ad outside the Philippines, makes me always a proud Pinoy.

Thoughts not related to this post:
    - The comment timestamps are ALWAYS 5 hours before the actual time of the comment. It's like commenting in a DeLorean time machine, in the past. Unnerving. Hmm, by design?

    - And no dates on your posts. Unnerving, somehow. Hmm.

    Thoughts related to this post:
    - 2009? Get a new online profile image. Hop into your DeLorean! Back to the Future!

    - Where is your Filipino pride? Why you gotta hate, hater? Just kidding. :P

Have you seen that video wherein he sings Cebuano songs and plays guitar? It's... five minutes gone just like that.

My family and an aunt visited an uncle in General Santos in 2008 I think, and the first thing my aunt wanted to do was see Pacman's mansion. That aunt died two years later, BTW. No connection whatsoever.

So I read this last night. I could've sworn this post was different before. And this morning... What the f**k? Your edits are driving me cray cray. (Hmm, is this a plan?) :P

I swear, there was a lame joke about Olivia Newton-John "Let's Get Physical". And something about shadowboxing? Why? Got tired of hitting penis piñatas?

"I felt bad so I donated 99 cents."

Meaning, you felt bad for pirating music when you realised it was for charity? Hahaha! :P

Oh hey, I'm on your worthless KARMA WALL now?! How did that happen? I thought you discriminated against commenters without websites! Oh HO, ha ha ha! :P

I still want one of his shirts. Just for the sake of Filipino pride, LOL.
