Yes, that's the lazy fat cat known as Max in our previous house - in that perpetually half-awake, half-dreamy state. Thumbing his cat nose at our "furniture off-limits, yecch cat hair" rule. Now, he's much too old and fat to jump up on anything... Hmm, we sold that "uncomfortable wicker set" recently - sofa, coffee table, 2 side tables and big chair. I won't miss it.
I read somewhere on the Net that "you burn more calories sleeping than you do watching TV". I wondered if that statement was based on scientific fact or fiction so I did a quick Google search (instead of sleeping which is what I should have been doing). On the left? Max on his rug in the family room of our house, seeing mirrors of his alternate LOLcat personalities - Niki Sanders and Jessica Sanders... on my Dell 5160 Pentium 4 crash 'n burn laptop and on my Dad's new LG LCD television entertainment hub. (Dear Santa, I really want a shiny new MacBook Pro, please.) :-D
So anyway... back to the burning question: Can a creature, man or beast... burn more calories sleeping than watching television? According to this website and other Google results, it seems that the metabolic rate and calorie loss of a human when asleep is either the same or just a little bit higher than when watching the boob tube, however, the key difference is that people watching TV eat fatty, sugary or salty snacks during couch potato sessions... hence, more calories (and fat asses). Yes, we all pretty much KNEW THAT already. A table excerpt taken from that website:

Either way, I should really get more... sleep... :-D right after a few hours of TV. I just can't seem to sleep. I.can't.seem.to.sleep. I.lie.awake. I.lie.awake.
Hmm, I suddenly have a craving for some spicy Trinidadian Doubles.

Max's soooo cute! I said CUTE right? Not huge...
I need to get some sleep too. It's already 3 am and I still haven't slept. Got to get ready for work by 7 am...
LOL, nice cat... I heard that recently too off of some random site I "stumbled upon" and have no reason to trust... Also, I like the Heroes reference, save the cheerleader, save the world!
That first pic is awesome! So, are you purposely staying away from certain subjects? I'm fairly sure you're capable of intelligent discourse on art, tech, socio-political topics, etc... ;-)
Haha, that's got to be one of the greatest pictures I've ever seen...
Aww! Cute kitty, I love your smilies too (and your holler back sign)...
Hehe... very interesting post. : )
That's the first time I've ever seen a cat... like that. No offense.
Hmm. That's interesting, about the calories.
