7.7.07 Green Day: Transformers, iPhone, Live Earth and the Green-Eyed Monster

iPhone Transformers: More Than Meets the Eye!

Today’s serving of Brain Stew is… jade green. Sweetie darling, green is the new purple. Somewhere out there beneath the pale moonlight, someone’s thinking of me and muttering, “Random!” No, a whacko is never late, Frodo Baggins. Nor is she early. She arrives precisely when she means to… more or less. With equal parts hackneyed verbal diarrhea, serendipity, insipidity, Bipitty Boppity Boo, everything’s coming up green today. The title sez all.

The first order of business — many thanks (salamat) to Jhed who nommed fruityoaty as one of The Top 10 Emerging Influential Blogs in 2007. Jhed blogged, “The queen of food porn! Haha! Reading her blog is like talking to her face-to-face. No shits or whatsoever, which I really like. It’s refreshing with a hint of retardness!” (How much am I loving that last bit? Buckets.)

Jhed is currently sitting in 9th spot after 8 weeks with 8 nominations! If you want to shout out that you totally dig Jhed’s transparent style tinged with pink pizazz AND you have a website, join Janette Toral’s contest now!

Due to the kindness of 11 highly disturbed bloggers, I’ve been sitting in 6th spot for the last 4 weeks. Weird. Satan  called and he wants his number back. Eh, with 3 weeks left in the contest, a Top 10 finish is hardly locked.

But I’m not here to dish out more food porn. (Lei sez she’s on a diet. Let’s give the poor girl a break. She’s already devasted by the Wentworth Miller is gay rumours, har.) Today, I stand before my blogger bros and sisters to confess my other vice — tech & gadget lust. I live on The Isle of Nerdonia.

Nooo, not electronic sex toys. Sheesh. For example, the new shiny iPhone. I sooo want one. Gizmodo has a great list of Ten Things You Should Know Before You Buy an iPhone. Follow the link for full details. Briefly, they are:

  1. Not all iPod Accessories and headphones will work with the iPhone
  2. AT&T is Evil
  3. No video recording or MMS
  4. No Instant Messaging
  5. Not for business use
  6. It’s not a full iPod Replacement, and it has no games
  7. It’s not a smartphone
  8. The data connection is slow
  9. There’s no GPS
  10. There are no custom ringtones

How environmentally green is that iPhone? Did ya know that Greenpeace ran a successful Green my Apple campaign to pressure Apple to improve its environmental policies and practices? Well, no official word yet from Apple about any green features. Go here for updates on the issue. Do you care?

OK, so even if I had extra cash to drop right now, I’m not very gung-ho to buy a first generation iPhone ’cause I’m waiting for iPhone Transformers that turn into kickass robots. Second gen release — more features, less defects and cheaper. Speaking of Transformers (the movie), read Jigs’ 10 Kinds of Awesome. Jigs creams in his pants and sez “awesome” 15 times.

In this interview, Shia LaBeouf was asked if the film used a lot of green screens. He answered: “No. We build the robots, we blew stuff up. This all really happened. There’s stuff we could’ve done on green screen but the way that [ Michael ] Bay works, and the way he works with actors, which is why it’s funny to me he goes to such lengths to put his actors in situations that are safety (??) and dangerous for their reaction and their response.” That basically means the director is C-CRAZY. Real action?

7.7.07. The day they announced The New 7 Wonders of the World… and Live Earth concerts were held throughout 8 major cities around the world to raise awareness to global warming and other kinds of shit we’re doing to our world. If you want to make a difference, switch from energy-hogging traditional light bulbs to CFB (compact fluorescent bulbs). My friend Valerie wrote a couple of good articles (here and here) about her research to find CFB that mimic the warm glow of traditional light bulbs.

… and lastly, here’s the entire article (featuring my cousin and his gadget fetish) published in a major daily newspaper. I don’t want him stumbling on my blog, so I’m not linking to the online article… Just screen captures:

A newspaper article that mentions my cousin's gadget fetish

My cousin - surrounded by his sex toys

Pretentious, much?

THE REST OF THE ARTICLE IS INTERESTING BUT ENTIRELY OPTIONAL READING. Click on a thumbnail image (3 total) to enlarge:

What is it with these “I watched An Inconvenient Truth” sooo pretentious types? Ouch, harsh. I’m kidding. Say hello to my green-eyed monster.

Adieu for now,

 green-eyed fruity

It’s July 9 here now. Lol.

Thank you sooo much for the Transformers interview link. Shia is my new savior. :p I’m a gadget freak too — it’s just that I have to wait until I’m really successful so that I can buy all of them. I agree with buying the 10th gen iPhone because it’s much improved and cheaper. Heck, I was so happy that I didn’t buy the 1st release of iPod or else I would be drooling over the iPod video one, which I have.

I so called it on the Wentworth Miller being gay thing. I told my friends like ages ago and they wail and wail and say it’s not true. Even the guys defended him. Seriously, what is UP with WW?? He is NOT hot.

  2. 2 fmontserrat (5 comments) Jul 9th, 2007 at 3:37 am

What? No food porn today? Gawd, and I was so looking forward to one right now. Lol.

Ah, yes… The… iPhone… The … iPhone. Someone should shoot the damn contraption to smithereens.

  3. 3 REX (4 comments) Jul 9th, 2007 at 3:42 am

    Haha! Cool phone!

I wonder how my N90 will look like? I bet it’s going to be as bulky, haha!

  4. 4 Zerovoltage (30 comments) Jul 9th, 2007 at 4:19 am

*Looks up and then down* I’m first?

Yeah, wait for later versions of the iPhone. I knew the iPhone was evil! … Megatron? Who’d have thought!

Wow! I love your cousin’s pad! *Turning green with envy*

  5. 5 Joni (7 comments) Jul 9th, 2007 at 4:47 am

Wait, the sentence about Wentworth Miller stuck to me… Waah. Is it true??? I hope that he being gay is *just* a rumor. Lol.

  6. 6 Marsha (1 comments) Jul 9th, 2007 at 7:25 am

The iPhone does look very pretty, but it seems like it’s really not all that good, huh.

  7. 7 Lil (24 comments) Jul 9th, 2007 at 8:58 am

No clue. I always thought Al Gore was really stupid. I think his green campaign is a good move though. I’ll probably end up watching the film at some point or another. To be honest I don’t really care about the environment, but I think that maybe I should start making some changes like using different light bulbs.

Ooooh, the iPhone — I wrote an entry about them too! Lovely, lovely, lovely.

I want to see Transformers so badly! :O I can’t wait till it comes out here!

Your cousin’s pad is amazing! Something like what I’ll have in the future. By the way, what projector does he have? I’m going to buy one soon seeing as my boyfriend and I are total film fanatics.

  8. 8 Jhed (19 comments) Jul 9th, 2007 at 9:30 am

I’m in the process of making my own “all hail, Transformers” post. Even though I’m all “all hail”-y with the said movie, I didn’t cream in my pants though. It’s probably due to the lack of “action”. Oh yeah, I was actually waiting for Bumblebee to pump up Prime’s… err… gas? LOL.

My gaaad… I want to live with your cousin. Hahaha! Just kidding. But just in case… I can give you my contact number. LOL.

    EDIT: Jul 10, 10:05 AM
OMG! Where did my comment go? [Weird]

Transformers is one of the COOLEST movies I’ve ever seen. But I’m not as enthusiastic as Jigs though… I’m a bit thrown off by the storyline. It’s confusing and dissatisfying. LOL.

OMG! I sooo wanna marry your cousin! Hahahaha! Just kidding. But just in case, I can leave you my contact details. LOL. :P

    EDIT: Jul 10, 10:06 AM
OMG! I’m like the stupidest person ever. Not to mention blind. ARGH! Sorry about my second comment. Feel free to delete it whenever you want. LOL.

I find the Shia interview hard to believe.

But anyway, you should have posted a photo of Shia instead of Megatron. Me no likey. Lol. :)

Okay, your cousin lives in gadget heaven. Can we be friends? :D

  10. 10 Kaitlin (kaitsessions.blogspot.com) (31 comments) Jul 9th, 2007 at 10:45 am

So what can one do with an iPhone then if it ain’t got all the cool stuff we thought it had? If the iPhone is nothing but an iPod transformed, I’m glad I have my nano and my celly with me. Same, same.

  11. 11 Paolomendoza (14 comments) Jul 9th, 2007 at 11:32 am

For 500 bucks, I think the iPhone is cool enough. Some phones are waaay more expensive. So I can be considerate with the fact that it doesn’t have custom ringtones or that you have to have a two-year contract with AT&T to even use it. But I can’t imagine not being able to take videos. That’s why I’m not buying one.

    Plus I’m broke.

  12. 12 Anna (fuchsia-revolver.org) (1 comments) Jul 9th, 2007 at 12:04 pm

The iPhone is an interesting concept and certainly cool, but it is not something I would shell out $600. $600 for something that is going to be:

    a. obsolete

    b. a “buy one, get one free!!” plan in a year or two

    -and/or-

    c. full of glitches and other faults that they are probably going to tweak for the upcoming versions of the product

It is hardly worth it, especially just to say, “Hey, I got this HOT new product!” Kids were saying that years ago when the first click wheel iPod came out… and look where you can buy one of those now: nowhere. They are junk when compared to the new iPods.

Additionally, I thought the plans (the ones that are for new accounts, not adding an additional fee to an existing AT&T plan) for the iPhone were horrible. The lowest plan is $60 a month for 450 minutes and 200 text messages whereas the highest plan is $219 a month for 6,000 minutes and 200 text messages. Unlimited text messages is an extra $20 a month. No thanks. I think I will stick to my T-Mobile plan: unlimited text messages, 600 minutes, free nights and weekends, etc. all for about $60 a month.

  13. 13 Kiritsubo (4 comments) Jul 9th, 2007 at 2:16 pm

That is so good to know about the iPhone! Not that I would actually have bought one, because god knows I have no money for that kind of frivolous purchase, but I so wanted one! And now I want one way less. Thank you! :)

  14. 14 Ashley (ashley.stereoshock.nu) (2 comments) Jul 9th, 2007 at 2:22 pm

I was interested in the iPhone, until I read some of those things. That’s really interesting, but I’m sure that Apple will improve on it more and more.

Transformers is a really good movie. And it’s cool that the director didn’t rely on green screens because then actors actually had something real to react to.

  15. 15 Jim (34 comments) Jul 10th, 2007 at 12:51 am

Thanks for the info on the iPhone. I would love to have one, but I think I’m fine with my Dopod.

The New 7 Wonders of the World. As it was revealed so are the issues behind it. UNESCO and Egypt are soooo much against it. Oh, well at least it got the world’s attention to the world’s finest sites / discoveries / creations.

  16. 16 Agent Grey (6 comments) Jul 10th, 2007 at 1:44 am

I’ll be delighted to buy the iPhone if it will transform into a mass-destructing gargantuan robot.

And yeah, evil stuff are cooler than the good ones.

  17. 17 Netherchild (1 comments) Jul 10th, 2007 at 3:55 am

 I was directed here when I saw your name in a friend’s blog. FRUITYOATY… sounds yummy. Haha I love foodsss!

Well, those gadgets are everywhere. Even the poorest Filipinos won’t be left behind. They themselves own cellular phones. The money intended for food is now being used to supply themselves a load, para lang makipag tsismisan.

    A nice day ahead.

  18. 18 Chase (34 comments) Jul 10th, 2007 at 6:47 am

Honestly, I got turned off with the iPhone and probably will wait for the next generation instead, but I wish Apple will open it so it works on any telecom networks as normal mobile phones. Vodafone here got enough of the requirements Apple imposed upon them as a sole distributor and nixed the whole deal.

I am also a gadget freak but my interests are usually limited to gaming consoles, mp3 players, PCs and laptops.

  19. 19 P365D (6 comments) Jul 10th, 2007 at 10:02 am

I like Shia. Weird on Even Stevens, haha! Well, iPhone sucks with those bullet things… Maybe the 2nd gen would be nicer… haha, but I want one with Bumblebee! Yikes!

  20. 20 Sean (2 comments) Jul 10th, 2007 at 10:29 am

There’s a new iPhone in the works that is going to sell for under $300. Plus there is an open source phone that is coming out soon that is going to be far cheaper than the iPhone with many of the same features, plus some other ones that are standard with cell phones now.

  22. 22 Jigs (37 comments) Jul 10th, 2007 at 12:04 pm

Let’s clear the air right now…

I DID NOT, I REPEAT, DID NOT “CREAM MY PANTS” OVER THE MOVIE!!! Well, maybe a little… hihi…

It was an awesome movie! What can I say? AWESOME! You have to see the movie for what it is, a nostalgic action packed extravaganza! If you nitpick on the movie, you certainly won’t like it.

Moving on! Before I start making another movie review here. Haha!

IPHONE!!! Loves it! But like you, I will wait for the 2nd gen. Much more features!

Your cousin is so cool! I wish I had that many gadgets! In a few months, I’ll be receiving my newest gadget baby that would satiate my hunger for high tech stuff… Hahaha!

  23. 23 Alternati (14 comments) Jul 10th, 2007 at 2:11 pm

Green green green… I love the color. It reminds me of the Grinch and bile fluid. It’s my fave color.

Hey, I watched “An Inconvenient Truth”… aside from finding out that Gore actually had a sense of humor (clips of his sleep-inducing VP speeches still haunt me), I learned I knew squat about Global Warming. It didn’t make any drastic changes to my daily habits… But it did scare me… enough to make me wanna carpool more.

I have been salivating on the iPhone for some time now, but I got disappointed when more details about it were released. (I am so getting a Steve Jobs impression done by SNL’s Fred Armisen right now.)

Anyhoo… Why go all undercover with your blog as far as your cousin is concerned? Just curious. Hehe.

  24. 24 Nan (23 comments) Jul 10th, 2007 at 4:31 pm

The lack of a video feature really surprised me when the iPhone was launched. I didn’t know that there was no messenger feature either — but this time I am not so surprised — MSN and Microsoft and all. I am not all worked up about Apple reinventing the cell phone — it’s a waste of life, time and green.

  25. 25 Paris (formerly of eclipse-paris.blogspot.com) (4 comments) Jul 10th, 2007 at 8:25 pm

If it has no video recording and MMS, why buy an iPhone? I saw in the news that this is the latest craze in town and the “must have” for Hollywood celebrities. Or it is just plain publicity and marketing.

  26. 26 Dan Hellbound (8 comments) Jul 11th, 2007 at 6:23 am

Transformers. Most awesome movie “The Hell Bent” has ever seen. Totally. Period. I think I’ve fallen in love with Megan Fox. LOL. And Optimus Prime’s structure… I’m so envious at the 3D designers who have come up with the robot’s structure!

iPhone. Well, I saw the interface and design… It’s pretty unique. Still, I’m not going to buy it. For me, mobile phones are for sending SMS messages and portable phone calls. That’s all about it.

That Megatron-posing-behind-the-iPhone pic is awesome. I hope there’s going to be an Allspark-powered mobile phone, which will turn into a weapon-crazy mass of destruction.

Thanks for linking me up, my dear. I’ll be taking back the favor. :)

  27. 27 Fendi (47 comments) Jul 11th, 2007 at 8:53 am

I still love to have one. I have read too much about the No No’s of the iPhone, but still I want it.

I can’t wait until it gets here in Europe this Autumn. Is there anyone in the US who could buy an iPhone for me? I send money, mate. Then I donä’t know how to open it.

Well, one of the highlights I had of the 07.07.07 hype was this event, “Nana Day.” It’s like a tribute event to a Japanese music act “Nana.” It started at 7:07 pm, yes as is, for there really was a countdown watch.

iPhones are quite popular as well as their spoofs and whatnots. Surf at YouTube, for example.

Green reminds of one thing — ex-girlfriend. Nyehehehe.

“Nana” is “seven” in the Japanese language.

  29. 29 Sami (formerly of weightless.lovely-headline.org) (2 comments) Jul 11th, 2007 at 11:01 am

The iPhone looks very interesting, but I don’t think it’s very pretty. I’d never get it just because it’s not cute. If they made a pink version, then maybe.

  30. 30 Angelica (9 comments) Jul 11th, 2007 at 2:43 pm

Lol, I know nothing about new gadgets! I didn’t even know such a thing as an iPhone existed!

Yay for food porn! Which reminds me, I’m hungryyy.

  31. 31 Joana (29 comments) Jul 11th, 2007 at 5:40 pm

There is no food porn? NOOOOO!!!!!

    *snickers*

I had to do that. Damn, I guess I’m vacationing on your island because I kinda want one of those phones now after seeing them. XD Can’t afford it though.

  32. 32 Alma (34 comments) Jul 11th, 2007 at 7:58 pm

Oh yes, Transformers is AWESOME. I didn’t want it to end.

iPhone looks great, but too expensive. I’m poor  and can’t afford it.

The Live Earth concerts may have raised awareness on global warming and as you have said, any kind of shit we do to our world, BUT the people who attended the concerts should also be aware of the rubbish they have left behind after the show. Tons of plastic bottles scattered all over some venues!

  33. 33 Esther (formerly of bonsai.charismatic-insanity.net) (6 comments) Jul 12th, 2007 at 8:44 am

Congratulations on your nominations! :D To bring a little food into your post ^^ haha, I think I’ve eaten Chicken Tikka once, but weirdly enough I don’t quite remember if I liked it because I was a lot younger. o.O

Lol, the iPhone is cool… and it’s good to know all those things it can’t do. I think I’ll stick to my mp3, then. XD

  34. 34 Kaisa (2 comments) Jul 12th, 2007 at 12:05 pm

Meh, I don’t want an iPhone. Not this one, not the next generation one. I have a phone, I have an iPod and I want to keep them separated, thankyouverymuch.

I didn’t watch Live Earth. I opted to save energy by switching off my TV and computer, not by keeping them on all night watching washed out rock stars. :P

  35. 35 Sarah (hiddenradiance.org/vertigo) (3 comments) Jul 12th, 2007 at 2:48 pm

That is a really cool iPhone!! I’d love to get a new mobile someday, but might have to save up for that one, hehe. I saw a bit of Live Earth, but wish I could have seen more. There were TONS of performers there and it would’ve been nice to have seen a good lot of them. :)

  36. 36 Tina (angelblush.net) (28 comments) Jul 12th, 2007 at 7:36 pm

I still haven’t gotten around to watching “Transformers”… and even “An Inconvenient Truth”. Hayy… oh well.

    I’m not a gadget freak… hehe.

I did not know there were New 7 Wonders of the World? Wow, Great Wall still made it.

  37. 37 Kofi (8 comments) Jul 13th, 2007 at 2:14 am

Errr… now I’m quite disturbed. Why call it an iPhone if there’s no mms and sms? Now the nerd in me is just plain disappointed.

  38. 38 Euri (10 comments) Jul 13th, 2007 at 4:46 am

For me, one thing about stuff with “i” at the beginning is that they cost too much $$$. And sadly, I don’t have that.

  39. 39 Mark (formerly of flavoroflife.net) (3 comments) Jul 13th, 2007 at 10:10 am

I never really liked the idea of the iPhone. You actually came up with pretty good reasons, nice one!

    Cool phone to have.

And cool cousin too. Do you visit him just so you can watch some movies on his 100″ projection screen?

  42. 42 Christian (8 comments) Jul 14th, 2007 at 3:33 am

iPhone: Well, it’s not available here in the Philippines. And even if it’s for sale here, I won’t buy it. For sure, it would be expensive and its features are not that good (for me). Oh, have you seen those tests they did with it? There was this one where they blended the iPhone. Ah, they wasted money!

  43. 43 Gean (6 comments) Jul 15th, 2007 at 6:24 am

I want an iPhone. Wait, I changed my mind (after reading this entry). Hehe.

Err, haven’t heard of the New 7 Wonders of the World.

  44. 44 Fendi (47 comments) Jul 15th, 2007 at 3:21 pm

  46. 46 fruity (54 comments) Jul 16th, 2007 at 6:27 am

@Michael Mpg: Thanks. I Photoshopped it.

  47. 47 Slim whale (5 comments) Jul 16th, 2007 at 6:28 am

Reading your blog felt like talking to you at Starbucks. Quite an engaging style.

Food porn, hmmmm. Just the thought of it turns me on. I’ll look forward to that. I’m the skinniest glutton alive.

Oh, and I don’t remember having called you up to reclaim my number. It’s all yours!

  48. 48 Paolomendoza (14 comments) Jul 16th, 2007 at 11:28 am

@Slim whale: Funny, I felt the same thing once. There must be an explanation for this.

@Gean: You should browse around for the “iPhone second generation” (iPhone 2.0)… That might sound more promising. It’s gonna be released next year.

  49. 49 Jools (1 comments) Jul 16th, 2007 at 3:49 pm

Oh man. I’m not getting an iPhone just because I love my Verizon too much, heh.

  50. 50 Paddy (13 comments) Jul 17th, 2007 at 12:24 am

I love iPhones! Hehe, they’re not out in Australia yet. But yeah, everyone sounded too disappointed in the current one.

    P.S. Where’s a food photo?!

  51. 51 Sasha (4 comments) Jul 17th, 2007 at 1:21 am

I heard so many disappointing comments about the iPhone. And it’s not a smartphone? Never mind then. I’ll just stick with my XDA. :)

  52. 52 Victor Franqui (1 comments) Jul 17th, 2007 at 3:32 am

Wow I did not know most of the stuff that is on the list. I was thinking of using it for my business to replace my BlackBerry. Ohhh well, guess not.

  53. 53 Agring (2 comments) Jul 17th, 2007 at 12:56 pm

Wahhhhhh! I’m not crazy about that iPhone!

  54. 54 Kubi (8 comments) Jul 17th, 2007 at 11:40 pm

    Hi green-eyed fruity!

I like that Machu Picchu is on the list. It’s the getting there, I hear (oh how I would love to go there), that’s fun. Perilous paths, steep ridges. Yeah! If it takes shredding your nerves to get there, it must be one helluva place.

iPhone Transformers. Haha. No kidding. :D

Transformers. Mecca brought to life. Woooooow…

  55. 55 Mari (23 comments) Jul 18th, 2007 at 12:13 pm

fruityoaty is going to invent the longest blog title in the world soon.

Could you believe that list about the iPhone? Mari still wants one, but her wallet is a lot less willing… And of course, how would it NOT be awesome to have an iPhone that turns into stuff? Mari would want her iPhone to turn into a kitty! Here kittyphone!

We have a bunch of those compact fluorescent bulbs in our house. We got ones with cooler temperatures and man… whoo! They look WEIRD.

Your cousin has the coolest tech toys…

    WE NEED MOAR FOOD PORN!

Loved the Megatron pic! Cool! I’m a big fan of the Robots in Disguise flick! More power kabayan!

  57. 57 Evilgenius (67 comments) Jul 20th, 2007 at 5:43 pm

Wait… you want an iPhone Transformers robot thingy? I thought the tiny cute little phone Transformer is one of the bad guys? LOL! But I must say it’s very cute. I want my car to be able to transform into a robot that can cook.

  58. 58 Iva (10 comments) Jul 21st, 2007 at 5:15 am

I absolutely loved the Green Day references in this entry. Almost like the sex references you deny right after having used them. Hehehehe.

And I would like an iPhone with a toaster and a flame thrower, please. I always need some food with me and sometime soon, self-defence would be quite useful, too.

Live Earth had one more stupid thing to it: everything, always, no matter what, happens in London, while the rest of the big European cities never get a chance to participate in stuff like that. So, whoever says that it’s not thought of carefully is an idiot. It’s always the same commercial p00p in the same places.

Your cousin is obsessed. I’m definitely congratulating him for having appeared in public with his obsession, but I bet he’s driving everyone insane.

Props to the iPhone Transformer, as good as the iPhone in the blender which then got sold on eBay.

I really would not mind an IPHONE, but I wouldn’t pay $600 for one. I’ve been entering contests everywhere though to get one for free! LOL.

Great blog. Load of content here!

With all the hype going on around the iPhone, this was bound to happen.

Also, I love the “AT&T is Evil” part.

LOL, that is great. Only a matter of time before the iPhone is as ubiquitous as the iPod.

Yeah, you’re totally right by staying away from the first gen iPhone… Things are always better the second time around, anyway.

Is it just me, or are the new 7 Wonders of the World not that impressive?

Hey, the Transformers movie is very great, but the story of Transformers and Transformers cartoon are different.
