Link Me Up, Scotty!

I bumped my head very hard on the ceiling of the crawl space underneath our basement stairs as I was cleaning Max’s cat litter box. Perhaps I was too distracted by the foul smell to notice that beam when I quickly stood up. Yes, I should’ve been thinking outside the litter box. Oww, my noggin hurts. Feeling dizzy. Heck, I might even have a hairline skull fracture that I don’t know about. Quick, how many fingers do I see? And recite Pi to 20 digits! Whoah, what’s after 3.14? My God, how the stars shine so brightly!

OK, the reason for this entry is to formally address a few readers’ requests to exchange links. Link exchange (or link swap or reciprocal linking) is one way of increasing your blog’s link popularity in order to get your drivel read by strangers. If you build it, the masses don’t necessarily come even if you do have excellent content. Thankfully, my blog is neither afflicted with stellar form and function nor compelling content. Hell, who needs that, eh? That path leads to lots of blog traffic (more bandwidth = $$$) and driving the evil gaze of stinkin’ spammers and hackers towards the Shire. LOL.

Yes, I could discuss “ways of increasing link popularity”, but that might be construed as useful and compelling content. This post is simply about ME volleying some link love towards the first folks who asked me to exchange links since I started pollutin’ the Net on Aug. 29, 2006. Apparently, I’ll whore out my worthless piece of internet real estate if you just ask me.

But more importantly, I got to thinking about those bloggers. I ask, what sort of person would want to be associated with someone like ME who is obviously one fry short of a Happy Meal? I mean, what do they have in common with me beyond the superficial stuff? Not much, really. However, blogging is a lot about new conversations and connections, so… let’s take a look at my newly linked fellow bloggers: Her Realm (Cole), Blogbastic! (Jim Caro) and 3 Shots of Espresso (Kofi). No spyware - checked.

In particular, a special mention goes to Her Realm (Cole) mostly because she got my attention for being the first person to ask about swapping links. She left this comment on this previous post:

“Oh man! I couldn’t comment on your site before! I can now! w00t! I really like your blog entries. ^_^ And your kitty looks like mine so they should have little orange babies. That second picture with the WoW dude looks like your cat is strumming him like a guitar. -lol- Would you want to exchange links?”

Well, umm, Max’s golden jewels were lopped off a long time ago (which explains that pissed off glare he sometimes has), so Miss Scarlett, your kitty ain’t birthin’ no orange babies. For all I know, Max could be Brokeback Mountaineering it with the neighbour’s cat Lucky.

Then I checked out Cole’s site and found her post “WhatIdowhenI’mbored” written on 12/22/2006 (yes, that’s the title). She wrote:

“When I am bored I spend lots of time looking for blogs and personal sites, in hopes that one of them will leave a strong impression and ultimately, I want more affiliates. Lately, I’ve found many which I commented on but none which really left a great impression, except for fruityoaty… Perhaps this is because I tried to comment previously but I was not allowed to. I got an error that our IP was blacklisted, basically, for having some worm. I could not confirm this fact… I don’t love it but I took the time to download free trials from both Trend Micro and AVG, which found nothing, I guess. Anyway, I can comment now so no worries. I will go on spending my time browsing…”

Immediate thoughts after checking out Cole’s blog:

  1. Ooops, my Bad Behaviour anti-spam plugin was acting up! NOTE: I’ve recently updated to version 2.0.9 and commenting problems on my blog seem to have vanished. Bad Behaviour is all good and cool now. I recently wrote about my Bad Behaviour woes in this previous post. I heart the Bad Behaviour plugin despite some wonkiness.
  2. OK, that’s an obviously Goth-marinated blog and girl. But what’s on my blog that’s amusing Goth girl? (Because MOI, so not Goth.)
  3. Hmm, her current banner has an image of Frank the Demonic Bunny from the movie poster for Donnie Darko. Ah, of course, she had just read my strange reference to the Donnie Darko film in this previous post. Finding commonalities. Or maybe not.
  4. And maybe some of my moody ramblings had caught her dark Goth eyes. NOTE TO SELF: I need to ease up on the depressing and dark stuff. MORE CHEERY COWBELLS! More cowbell!

OK, I’m kidding. LOL. Anyway, whoever you are, Miss Cole, you have the honour (or misfortune) of always being on my links list (even if you remove me from yours), provided your blog never spews any crunk’d up hateration towards any person (with the exception of Jessica Alba) or group of persons of certain beliefs, religion, etc. And animals. Like fat orange cats.

So, people… go ahead and ask me about reciprocal linking. I might just say yes. OK, that’s still a NO to Jessica Alba fans… I’m kidding, well sort of. Strangely, I’ll NEVER EVER ASK a fellow blogger about exchanging links because dudes, that’ll just give me vivid flashbacks of elementary school playgrounds and rejection. Whoah, I just had one right now.

Final thoughts, my dear readers (wow, this has been f**king long):

  1. Maybe I should periodically reject people from visiting or commenting on my blog because apparently, IT GETS THEIR ATTENTION, haha!
  2. When I’m bored, I certainly wouldn’t be visiting a site like mine. LOL.
  3. So, go visit those dudes: Her Realm (Cole), Blogbastic! (Jim Caro) and 3 Shots of Espresso (Kofi) and tell ‘em I sent you to them. The other 2 dudes (Jim and Kofi) are fellow Filipinos. OK, so I haven’t read their blogs thoroughly enough to understand what they’re about. I figure, like mine - random musings on their daily life, aspirations, whatever.

Focus, Hiro Nakamura. {{{(>.<)}}} Aha, 3.14159265358979323846! Oh, my head hurts. Twinkle, twinkle little stars Sharon!

Whoah, too many links in this post… Barfed up links all over.

Adieu, ;)

Wow. I am still trying to let that long ass blog sink in. Long but very fun! I hope your head feels better and thank you for commenting on my site as well.

MAN! I never thought about linkages in a way you did! Hahahah! I started reading and I was like, omg it’s funnily true. One fry short of a Happy Meal? Hahaha, that’s gold.

Err, I generally don’t do link exchanges. It might sound cliquey, but I usually just link sites of friends, sites that I visit frequently, and people who comment a lot.

There are some people who ask for link exchanges but don’t visit or comment on my site at all. It sort of makes me feel like a filler for a site page.

Oh, I feel so special. -wipes a tear- Seriously, though - I love the way you write. I always find myself laughing and smiling after I read your blog entries.

Anyway, thanks for the linkage. Hope it will serve us well. -crosses my hand over my chest in some sort of salute-

And my kitty is a boy too and also fixed at that, but that won’t stop me from somehow promoting his lineage. Muahahaha.

 Nice entry! Thanks for citing me. It’s nice to just browse and read how people think when they are “alone.” Mind you, if you’re thinking your blog/you is/are “one fry short of a Happy Meal”, think again — it’s a lot more valuable than mine! US$12,419.88!!! (Well, it’s just months since I started in WordPress — defensive!!).

    Keep on blogging, Massa P!

Maybe since you’re short a fry, the Big Mac makes up for it! :D YAY. Hope your head feels better. :)

I used to know the first five digits of pi… now I don’t. :P

    Hi,

Will you be my friend? I’d like to exchange links with you. Please don’t hate me because I’m beautiful.

Honey was the bestest film ever. I can truly act! I can! I can!

    XOXO,
    Jessica Alba

Same here. I don’t usually ask for a link swap for fear of rejection. :???:

But you just gave me the courage, so I will ask. Swap links?

Hiro Nakamura to get you 3.14159265358979323846? Just call Chloe O’Brian… She’d give you the number in just under a second… LOL!

But, the “future” Hiro Nakamura could potentially get you the next digit (or two or three) for Pi from the future… hmm.

So… next Monday… Jack Bauer or Hiro Nakamura?
