As I write this, Halloween night has been fairly quiet and uneventful. Just handing out chocolates and pocketing some for myself - the 1 for you, 2 for me method! I’m surprised at the low turnout because the weather is OK. So far, only about 75 kids have come knocking on our door - many of them were older teens whose trick-or-treating days have long expired, a few young teens dressed up as hookers or pimps (disturbing, gives new meaning to the word tricks) and several déjà vu repeat kids looking to score extra candy. “Hey, do I look like I have Alzheimer’s?”
Maybe I’ve turned into a curmudgeon when I say that many kids these days have no manners and don’t seem to understand the concept of saying “thanks”. One young boy rudely asked, “Aww man, can I get something ELSE?” I sweetly inquired, “Sure, do you have a peanut allergy problem?” He rolled his eyes and said no, to which I replied, “Well, then, no, I don’t have anything else.” Then he sighed and stomped off. See ya next year, strange kid. More chocolates for me!
In honour of Halloween, here’s a grab bag of poisoned apples for you to munch on while I watch a scary movie during my snoozer Halloween:
Remember that 5 min. 45 sec. time-lapse video made out of 2356 photos of a dude who took a photo of himself every day for 6 years, which I wrote about in this previous post? Well, here’s a more interesting, shorter version of that video (just 44 sec.). To get the full effect, make sure you TURN UP THE SOUND, watch it in a dark quiet room and don’t skip - watch it to the end. READY? Watch it. Trust me.

Next, a photo of my sister at HomeSense (that store that sells home décor and accessories) which is the unlikeliest place to find a nifty Halloween costume. That mask is actually a wall ornament, although I’d never hang that thing on any wall. Actually, there’s a few things I would not hang, namely, stuff that scares me: stuffed dead animals, ornamental fabric hangings (well, they look like rugs or blankets), Dorian Gray paintings, large mirrors, native Indian or traditional Mexican art (no offense), and anything that looks like a scary face or gargoyle. Anway, I thought that mask would make a great “Italian Carnevale” mask, hmm? Carnevale is a cool Italian festival that starts around mid-Jan. (or early Feb., depends) and always ends on the first day of Lent (aka Shrove Tuesday, Fat Tuesday, Mardi Gras - the day before Ash Wednesday). In Latin, “carne vale” means “farewell to meat” or “remove meat”. It’s a festival for vegetarians, kidding!
Next, cheesy Halloween table decorations in my neighbourhood bakery store (a 5-minute walk from my house). I love their strawberry mascarpone cream tarts and sugar-dusted donuts. Absolutely, sinfully divine! A fire shut down the store for several weeks a few months ago, but they’ve re-opened.
Lastly, a recent photo I took of my neighbour’s cat named Lucky. As usual, he was waiting to be fed. I briefly mentioned Lucky in this previous post. He’s a very sweet, mild-mannered, friendly cat, but at night, he can be kinda scary. Check out those glowing eyes. Must have been the camera flash.

Well, happy Halloween to everyone! Now, I have to liberally sprinkle some holy water and cast out demons from my blog. THAT MOVIE (which I will not mention) still scares me to this day.

OMG, the video! Lucky looks downright frightening!
Personally, I like the “1 for you, 5 for me method”! Great video, my heart was moved, ‘literally’.
The vid… yikes! Um… wait, Lucky was waiting to be fed… by YOU?
@evilgenius: Yes, by me or anyone in my family (whomever he sees first). Just a little treat and a rub on his furry head.
@Jude: Hahaha! 1 for you, 2 for me, 2 for you, 4 for me…
@Paulie: Yeah, he does look evil in the dark, but he’s a sweet little beggar. One night, I didn’t see him. I almost stepped on Lucky!
