i carry your heart with me

It’s only because I’m maudlin and bursting with extra thick schmaltz today that I give you one of my favourite poems written, of course, by someone else. Don’t worry, I won’t subject you to a post written all in effing e.e. cummings lowercase. One lovely poem, right after a smattering of random, incoherent musings. Does fruity write poetry? Nope, that would require talent, massive amounts of alcohol, an unhappy childhood and/or difficult adulthood, angst and unholy Lilith Fair music of epic proportions.

When Maggie (played by Cameron Diaz) reads an e.e. cummings poem at her sister Rose’s wedding (played by Toni Collette, stellar) in the film In Her Shoes (a funny and warm story about two sisters who have nothing in common except the same shoe size), it’s probably one of Diaz’s finest moments as an actress with so-so acting ability and career (IMHO). Yes, In Her Shoes is a chick flick (not a movie about Imelda Marcos) and we here at fruityoaty normally HATE chick flicks. We laughed. We cried.

We are also still unimpressed with Jessica Alba. One of fruity’s friends thinks that Ms. Alba will redeem herself one day just like actress Jennifer Connelly did in A Beautiful Mind and A House of Sand and Fog (Jennifer Connelly of “ass-to-ass” fake double Requiem for a Dream fame). fruity completely disagrees with aforementioned friend and is of the strong opinion that he was only thinking of Ms. Alba’s booty and wishing he had his very own Sleeping Dictionary when professing his admiration for Ms. Alba. Please, don’t ever make see Honey again. For the love of God. Lastly, fruity says, “When in doubt or you’ve got nothing better to write, quote e.e. cummings or Rainer Maria Rilke (German poet) because it apparently gives you the appearance of being deep and understanding the plight of humanity and your prospective readers.” Uh-huh, sure. ;)

i carry your heart with me
e.e. cummings

i carry your heart with me (i carry it in
my heart) i am never without it (anywhere
i go you go, my dear; and whatever is done
by only me is your doing, my darling)

i fear
no fate (for you are my fate, my sweet) i want
no world (for beautiful you are my world, my true)
and it’s you are whatever a moon has always meant
and whatever a sun will always sing is you

here is the deepest secret nobody knows
(here is the root of the root and the bud of the bud
and the sky of the sky of a tree called life; which grows
higher than soul can hope or mind can hide)
and this is the wonder that’s keeping the stars apart

i carry your heart (i carry it in my heart)

Adieu,

just… not so fruity
